That was about the most awful pun of all time. Apologies.
Kent v Middlesex (FP T20)
|World's friendliest usurper, as portrayed by Clare Skinner|
After making two runs in two innings under the reign of Eternal King Udal the new skipper Adam Gilchrist delivers an unbelievable captain's knock and leads Middlesex to their first victory at the Friends Provident T20.
Honi soit qui mal y pense.
In the previous post I sarcastically hoped that the captain's role wouldn't affect his batting.... who'd have thunk it!
Anyway, Middlesex decided to bowl, but realised soon that the wicket preferred the batsmen, wickets wouldn't fall and after the first innings Kent had accumulated a total of 183.
Gilly and David Warner got off to a nice start before Warner fell on 17. Gilchrist shrugged his shoulders and struck the ball at will. With figures of 106 off 52 and a respective strike rate of 203.84 he clearly excelled Kieron Pollard's superknock at Lord's a couple of days ago.
I am delighted that Middlesex finally get a victory on the board but for some reason the circumstances still gut me...
Sorry I'm emo like that. Alright. Will stop grumbling tomorrow or so. Promise. The boys will be happy anyway and I imagine that the odd pint is getting poured down the throats. Middlesex also finally managed to get some distance between them and Surrey at the bottom of the table, at least for the moment. They are now level with Essex, who they are to face next. I hope that today's victory fired them up and they will take enough confidence from it for the upcoming matches. Beside the aforementioned Essex they will meet Glamorgan, Surrey (awww) and the Australians; the match against the latter will be skippered by Adam Gilchrist as well, so there is a lot to look forward to.
The highlights are up!
Weirdly undecided about the outcome of the day,
